Culture as Focus

In strong cultures, there is a strong focus on goodness, not in a denial of all else, but in engagement of all that contributes to the organization and world we want to see. Goodness comes in myriad forms. There is the goodness of our strengths, passions, empowering questions, progress, achievements and significance.

In weak cultures, the focus is on badness: weaknesses, problems, blame, excuses, debilitating questions, deficncies, gaps and failures.

Culture is focus. Focus manifests in the quality of our conversations, the character of our metrics and the motivations of our habits. The shift from weak to strong culture is always a shift in focus.
