Why new ideas come from the outside

New ideas, really new ideas, often come from external inspirations and provocations. That's why more innovators are looking into how nature solves problems, a field called biomimicry, to solve problems in manufacturing, energy, medicine, architecture and transportation. New ideas don't usually come from within the same context. How artists solve problems in the arts is a very untapped external source of new possibilities.
